About
I'm just starting out on this Phd which will be weighted half practical and half theory, the long term aims of which are to develop a digital film resource for the teaching of History at Post and Undergraduate level.
Theoretical research will be broken down thus:
-Value of existing video archive to research and reasons why current provision of drama and drama documentary is insufficient.
-How faithful reconstruction can be of use to history teaching.
-Avoiding Historiography, how to create a resource that reflects current research but avoids current political thinking, examine current research on authenticity in visual media.
- Screen language, how to enhance content and serve the audience. As well as visual narrative and mis-en-scene which conventions of production will best serve a source?
The practical element will take the above research and create a piece of film that will be assessed by relevant experts. Concluding research will then examine how the process can enhance teaching and in what areas can it benefit education (for example assimilation amongst students and combined honours course pathways).
I am a member of the Centre for Broadcasting History Research based at Bournemouth University. Prof. Haydon of the University of Winchester is acting as an advisor .
