About

Sukhpreet Singh is an Associate Lecturer in Media / Cultural Industries Management with the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management, one of the leading research centres of Intellectual Property in the UK. He has taught in higher education since 2002, in particular on the marketing of media products and services industry offerings, besides being active in international student recruitment and acculturation in UK and in India.

In 2008-09, Sukhpreet acted as Lead Researcher an ESRC (UK) funded Business Placement Fellowship to undertake a study titled ‘Exploitation and Protection of TV Formats in Emerging Markets’. Key outcomes of this study (a database of 59 global TV format rights disputes, strategies to prevent format imitation and a business model for optimum format rights exploitation) are available, as an online learning resource to use in higher education and business, on http://tvformats.bournemouth.ac.uk

"The above study fills a gap in the understanding of international format trading. Kretschmer & Singh (2009)'s model of format rights exploitation can play a role in moderating the demand for stricter global IP rights as it shows, using empirical data, ways to help cultural industry businesses to thrive in the existing as well as in emerging creative markets.” (Sukhpreet Singh, 2009)

Sukhpreet Singh’s research interests include global television and film business, and intellectual property rights policy and management of cultural products.

Sukhpreet has also acted as a marketer with international hospitality majors such as Taj Hotels, Resorts, and Palaces, India (part of the Tata Group); and as an acculturation consultant for blue chip companies including JPMorgan Chase. In January 2009, the National Association of Television Production Executives (NATPE, USA) invited him to be a NATPE Educational Fellow.
