About
I am an economist by training. Currently I am a lecturer in Tourism Development and Impacts at Bournemouth University after having taught Tourism Economics at Monash University, Australia for 4 years and worked as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Mauritius for 3 years.
My main research interests are Tourism and Airline Economics. More specifically I am interested in demand modelling and economic impact analysis.
My other professional activities consist of being a council member for the International Association for Tourism Economics (IATE). In 2011 I co-organised the 3rd conference of IATE. I am a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Travel Research and belong to the German Aviation Research Society's pool of experts. In the past I have worked for UNESCO, UNICEF, Mauritius Research Council and the Mauritius Institute of Education.
I graduated from Monash University, Australia with a PhD in 2010. The title of my PhD, which was financed through the STCRC (Qantas) scholarship, is “Determinants of the International Tourism Flows : Empirical Evidence of Australia”. In 2010 I won the Hamburg Airport prize for best PhD paper for 'Immigration and Tourism Demand' which is based on Chapter 4 of my thesis. I have an MSc in Economics and Econometrics from Nottingham University, UK and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University of Mauritius.
My current projects include editing two books for Edward Elgar Publishing. These are 'Handbook of Research Methods in Tourism: Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches’ with Larry Dwyer and Alison Gill and ‘Advances in Tourism Economics’ with Larry Dwyer. Both are expected to be available in 2012. I am also co-editing the Dec 2012 issue of the journal Tourism Economics
